Walnuts: crop may fall even shorter of expectations

SACRAMENTO. The US walnut production is not only smaller than expected, there are also delays in harvesting. Some market players are reckoning with a considerable ipact on production. Exports from Chile have, in addition, risen sharply.

Lack of optimism in California

The National Agricultural Statistics Service anticipates a decline in average yields by16%. Depending on variety, production is expected to decline by 5-30%. Market playres reckon that the low production estimate of 570,000 metric tonnes is quite realistic. Anderson Exports even states that some market players are reckoning with an even smaller production. The suppliers are still reluctant to make any offers and if at all ony provide sporadic offers.
