SACRAMENTO/SANTIAGO. The expected decline in production continues to provide a firmer market trend in the US. Suppliers in Eastern Europe are erluctant to provide offers and a noted shift has been observed in Germany. Traders most certainly are in a powerful position.

Traders are in a powerful position

Since the official production estimates for California have fallen short of expectations at only 570,000 metric tonnes, the US traders now find themselves in the comfortable position of being able to set the prices as they please. Even if that means holding back offers. The market is currently paying close attention to in how far production will actually confirm the officital estimates.

In Chile, the new crop is largely sold out and the rising prices in the US are providing a further boost to the market. Spot market prices
