FRANKFURT. Prices in Europe and in Germany are on the decline.

Subdued market in Germany

Market activities in Germany are subdued in relation to the new crop. Traders report that the millers prefer to wait because the prices are too high and demand for flour is rather subdued. Milling wheat has, however, declined cosniderably in price in Germany and us currently trading for EUR 168-173 per metric tonne EXW. Traders generally reckon that the mills are not well covered, supplies in Germany are, however,  limited. In Magdeburg, there are complaints that yields are low and that the quality of the wheat on offer is worse than last year. In Leipzig, the protein values may be acceptable but yields are low.

Production to rise in the Ukraine

AKP Inform estimates production in the Ukraine at 27.5 million metric tonnes, which is an increase of 11% over last year. The protein content is also expectated to be higher. July exports increased by 400,000 metric tonnes to 1.4 million metric tonnes over last year in July. The prices for feed wheat range around USD 175 per metric tonne CPT Ukraine. In Lithuania prices range at EUR 152 per emtric tonne ex works Vilnius and in Poland at EUR 157 per metric tonne ex works Slaski and Zachodni.
