SACRAMENTO. The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) has issued its estimate for the 2017 US almond crop. About 970,000 mt of almonds were produced in the USA last year.

The crop expectations were originally only at 907,000 mt. The NASS is assuming a smaller yield per hectare for the 2017 crop, but thanks to the larger acreage, the total quantity should still almost reach 1 million mt – an increase of at least 2.8% compared to last year.

Germany and Spain in the lead

The export volume is still 25% higher than last year, and deliveries to the domestic market are also going well. On the West European market, 191,260 mt of US almonds were exported since the beginning of the season. With 67,149 mt and 40,777 mt respectively, more than half went to Spain and Germany.
