Almonds: Larger acreage could compensate for losses

SACRAMENTO. US almond traders delivered around 25% more almonds in February 2018 than last year. The exports since the beginning of the season have remained above last year's levels.

 

Growth in exports of 15%

In the first six months of 2017/18, as much as 459,338 mt of Californian almonds were shipped overseas, an increase of 15% compared to the same period last year. Sales on the national market have also risen by 6% to 185,805 mt. Together, 645,143 mt of US almonds have been shipped thus far.

The export volume to Europe has increased by 15% to 172,921 mt, Germany is on par with an increase of 16% to 36,984 mt compared to last year. In contrast, Spanish importers only increased their imports by 7% to 54,263 mt, while Italy
