Almonds: Market may be confronted with oversupplies

MADRID/SACRAMENTO. Imports to Spain have risen considerably in September. The pressure on prices is rising unstoppably.

 

Spain increases imports by 24%

In August, Spanish companies imported about 30% fewer almonds from the US than in August last year. This situation, however, changed in September with imports rising by 24% to 5,553 mt. A total of 11,165 mt of US almonds have been imported to Spain since the start of the season, only 10% less than in the first two months of 2017/18 (12,444 mt). Since this year's production in Spain also boasts very good results, the prices on the Spanish almond market continue to face pressure.
