Almonds: A market in transition

MADRID/SACRAMENTO. It will take a few more weeks for Californian almonds to arrive in the European market. The new crop is, however, currently available at much cheaper prices in Spain.

 

Concern over cheap prices
Traders in Spain have lowered the prices for by between 0.10 EUR/kg and 0.40 EUR/kg for the domestic market, depending on variety and quality. In spite of this, the Andalusian government continues to regard almonds as a commodity whose cultivation should be further promoted.

Commodity traders are not happy with the present price trend and are spreading a gloomy mood throughout the market. There is still concern that the trade war between China and the US will further weaken the price level in the international market. U
