MADRID/SACRAMENTO. Hail storms in parts of the Spanish almond-growing region of Castellón have shook the nuts off the trees prematurely. This will increase the harvest costs for local farmers.

The pressure is rising
The almond market experienced a primarily positive start to the season, and estimates predict that more than 60,000 mt of almonds will be produced in 2018/19. Due to the good crop in Spain and the enormous supplies from California (production estimated at ca. 1.1 million), the market is facing continuous pressure. The prices for Spanish almonds have remained largely stable over last week. However, the prices for blanched Marcona almonds have dropped by 0.10 EUR/kg.
