MADRID. The trade war between the USA and China is not only causing headaches for producers in California. There is also concern among traders in Spain about the possible implications. In addition, crop damages have been reported in Murcia.

Crop losses in Murcia

Frosty weather in Spain during the months of February and March has affected early blooming almond tree varieties such as Largueta and Marcona. A production decline of 25% is expected in the province of Murcia. The crop in the area is estimated to only reach as little as 22,500 mt. In contrast, 30,000 mt were produced last year.

Positive outlook for Spain

In the cultivation regions of Córdoba and Andalusia the outlook is, however, brighter. Weather-related delays have affected the harvests
