SACRAMENTO. While US almond shipments declined in April, the production estimates for 2020 differ widely.

Up to 17% more US almonds expected

Production estimates currently vary between 1.23 million metric tonnes (NASS) and 1.34 million metric tonnes (TNT) depending on source. In any case, there is a general agreement that production is to set a new record. This year's production is expected to rise by 7%-17%, over last year (2019/2020: 1.15 million mt). Given that this year's carry-overs should range higher than last year, supplies should be abundant in 2020/2021. Traders have already gone down in price for the new crop.

TEHRAN/MADRID. Iran’s pistachio exports remained disappointingly low in July and prospects for the new season are far from encouraging. Although Spain is only a small player in the market, pistachios may well turn into “green gold” here.

NEW DELHI. Due to high yields and the fact that Chinese buyers do not pay import duties on Sudanese goods, Indian traders see Sudan as their biggest competitor this season. In India, peanuts from the new crop are increasingly arriving on the markets, but are still spurned by buyers.
