Almonds: Spain should take advantage of its position

MADRID/SACRAMENTO. During the 5th Meeting of the Spanish Almond Industry, around 150 representatives of the sector met to discuss current issues. Meanwhile, the drought in the USA and the general prospect of declining production figures in important growing countries are causing almond prices to rise.

Experts focus on important issues

The Spanish association of almond shelling companies, Descalmendra, hosted the fifth discussion forum for the Spanish almond industry last Saturday in Almería. Around 150 representatives of the sector had gathered to discuss topics such as modernisation, commercialisation, growth, quality and sustainability. In his opening speech, association president Ángel de García mentioned that "it is time to copy all the good things that California is doing in terms of commercialisation" and main coordinator
