MADRID/SACRAMENTO. The US crop continues make a good progress, as reports state. Meanwhile, Spanish traders have adjusted their export prices.

Prices dropped by up to 20 cents per kg

As the experts from Blue Diamond Almonds report, the US almond blossom hardly experienced any negative environmental influences and the crop was able to develop well. Frost damage is said to have occurred in a few cases, while local hailstorms have so far had no consequences. The rainfall has been different depending on the regions, but could nevertheless reduce pest infestation. The producers plan to delay the use of chemicals as long as possible and hope that the natural enemies of the pests will take some of the work off their hands in time. With regard to the production potential for the US crop in 2020, experts most recently considered a result of 1.27 million metric tonnes to be realistic.

In the European spot market, export prices are again significantly lower than last week. Spanish varieties such as Valencias and Marconas have fallen by EUR 0.15-0.20 per kg. The price indications for whole US almonds are EUR 0.10-0.15 per kg below last week's level. Almond preparations are also trading around EUR 0.10 per kg cheaper.
