Blue poppy seeds: 2021 crop estimates officially revised downwards

CHRUDIM. The Czech Statistical Office recently published the updated data for the 2021 poppy seed crop. These are significantly behind the highly optimistic estimates from July.

Yield lower than expected

Although the poppy seed acreage in the Czech Republic was almost 10% larger than in 2020 at around 44,000 ha, the Czech Statistical Office reports that the yield per hectare shrank to 0.67 mt/ha. This was nevertheless sufficient to achieve a slight increase in production to about 29,400 mt - and thus the best crop result of the past ten years.
