CHRUDIM. The first poppy farmers are now in the fields as they want to take advantage of the dry weather forecast for the coming days to bring in part of the crop. The price situation looks bleak, however.

Two uncertainties remain

Czech blue poppy seed traders continue to fear low yields due to the predominantly cool and humid weather in recent months. The poppy plants could not develop as hoped for, which is why quality and quantity still remain uncertain for the time being. In any case, the yields of the winter sowing were not very satisfactory.

New crop at old prices

The blue poppy seed crop 2020 should be available from the third week of August. There are currently hardly any offers, neither for old nor new crops, and prices are again far from the original indications of EUR 2.00 per kg. Buyers must currently expect prices of EUR 2.50 per kg FCA Czech Republic for the new crop. Later price adjustments will depend primarily on the actual crop volume and on demand.
