Blue poppy seeds: Germany triples imports from the Czech Republic

CHRUDIM. The poppy seed harvest in the Czech Republic continues to progress. In the coming weeks, the process should be completed as long as the weather conditions are favourable. At the same time, demand is increasing.

Mixed yields on the poppy fields

Local rainfall is currently slowing down the harvesting process in the Czech poppy fields. So far, about 40-50% of the acreage have been harvested and the yields are mixed. Some fields show good results, while others have produced just 0.5 mt/ha. Overall, experts and market players currently expect an average result, which should lead to an increase in poppy seed production to more than 30,000 mt on an acreage of almost 44,000 ha.
