CHRUDIM/BUDAPEST. The Czech Republic's poppy seed harvest is about to begin. In Hungary, the process has already been completed. Meanwhile, prices for the old and the new crop are converging.

Positive outlook in the Czech Republic

In Hungary, farmers have completed the poppy seed harvest. An estimated total of 4,000 mt is said to have been produced. Poppy farmers in the Czech Republic have also started harvesting the ZENO poppy variety, which is sown several months before the spring crop. According to market players, however, the yield was lower than producers had initially expected. In the long term, however, this year's harvest is expected to produce at least an average yield.
