Blue poppy seeds: market players cannot reach agreement

CHRUDIM/ANKARA. In the Czech blue poppy seed market, there is disagreement between buyers and sellers about prices for the new crop. In Turkey, however, poppy seed prices are holding at the level of the past weeks.

Fear of price collapse

The high humidity and the above-average contamination of the raw materials ensure that significantly less blue poppy seeds are available in the usual quality. While buyers are demanding lower prices, some farmers, however, are not willing to accept the current offers. They are waiting for higher prices. Other growers and traders are keen to sell their poppy seeds as quickly as possible before prices fall below EUR 1.80/kg, as they did in the 2020/2021 season.
