CHRUDIM. In the Czech blue poppy seed market, demand has continued to increase in recent weeks, but the availability of good quality goods at favourable prices is limited. Therefore, there are continous price adjustments.

Cultivation forecast eagerly awaited

According to Czech market players, there are reports from neighbouring countries, stating that their poppy seed production will only be about half as large as last year due to the dry winter. How reliable these statements are remains to be seen. In the Czech Republic, however, the situation is different and sowing is going well. In some regions, farmers are said to have ploughed up their fields again and sown them with rapeseed and barley, as these products promise higher profits.
