CHRUDIM. A certain normality has resumed in the blue poppy seed market. Prices have, however, failed to decline so far. Issue is that many farmers refuse to sell.

Farmers have to shoulder high costs

After harvest delays along with problems in drying prompted a difficult start to the season things are more normal now in the Czech Republic. Export prices have remained firm as supply and demand are well balanced. Traders are observing the market closely for any changes. Hungary also holds sufficient supplies. Farmers are, however, holding back in a bid to drive up prices. Issue is that they have to shoulder higher costs for fertilisers, pesticides and energy.
