CHRUDIM. Producers reckon that the poppy seed crop will fall well short of official estimates. The Czech Statistical Office still needs to issue new estimates. Prices have risen.

Below-average yields

With harvesting complete it is becoming evident that production will range below the official government estimate of 19,000 mt. At 9.5-0.6 mt/ha yields range well below average and the spring crop is only expected to range at 12,000-14,500 mt. Although the Czech Statistical Office will issue revised estimates in the coming weeks, it is already clear that this is the worst production in years.
