Winter poppy fields need to be reseeded

Poppy seed farmers in the Czech Republic have started sowing for this year's crop. Official estimates of the area under cultivation are still pending, but market players reckon that a significantly larger area is likely to be sown than last year. In 2023, only 24,000 ha were planted with poppies in the Czech Republic, the smallest acreage planted in years.

In autumn 2023, around 8,000 ha were also sown with winter poppy, but unfavourable weather conditions meant that around 35% of the fields remained without yield. The
