CHRUDIM/ANKARA. The difficult geopolitical situation following Russia's invasion of Ukraine faces market players in the Czech Republic with difficult decisions. The Turkish market seems to be less affected by the developments so far.

Russia as largest buyer

Market players describe the situation on the Czech blue poppy seed market as very uncertain at the moment. The problem is that Russia is the most important customer for Czech blue poppy seeds; 30-40% of exports are destined for the Russian market. Due to the tense geopolitical situation after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, many Czech farmers have therefore decided to reduce their acreage - exactly how large it is now is not yet known.
