Butter: market satisfied with Christmas sales

FRANKFURT/BRUSSELS. Reports in Germany state that milk arrivals have reached their season low. The Milk Producers Association in Bavaria (MVB) reports that the Christmas sales continue at a high level in the retail market. EU butter exports have further improved in September.

Bulk buyers prefer to wait

Although demand is reportedly very high for table butter, prices have declined to a level of EUR 3.72-3.80 at the butter and cheese exchange in Kempten. The agreement reached with the retail market has taken some market players by surprise given the limited supplies of cream and the price development for fat.

Contrary to this, the situation is entirely different in the market for bulk butter. The buyers prefer to wait and even brought trading to a complete standstill last week, meaning that no prices could be quoted in Kempten. Mar
