CHICAGO/PARIS. Market and price trends with first trade assessments. The USDA quarterly report surprises the market and the export market also recovers again after yesterday's price drop. Algeria's wheat tender surprises the market players.

Wheat: Algeria buys around 500,000 mt

Wheat prices set unexpectedly upwards for the trade. It was announced from France that Algeria bought 500,000 mt of common wheat yesterday, probably in France, Germany and Poland. This was above expectations. The USDA quarterly report showed some surprises. The USDA estimates the total wheat acreage in 2021 at 46.4 million acres, which would be 5% more than last year. KYIV. Taras Vysotskiy, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, accused invading Russian forces of stealing grain in areas they have occupied on 30 April. Vysotskiy stated on Ukrainian TV that “there are confirmed facts that several hundred thousand tons of grain in total were taken out of the Zaporizhzhya, Kherson, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions.” Farmers are set to defy the Russian invaders.
