NEW DELHI. Large price gaps persist for chickpeas in India. Some stockists and traders have also thrown caution to the wind.

Large price gaps

Although the local market may have finally settled after weeks of fluctuations, prices differ greatly depending on quality. While lower quality chickpeas are being sold at USD 1.06-1.08/kg, suppliers are demanding prices of USD 1.44-1.46/kg for high-quality Karnataka varieties. Despite recent bad weather having significantly reduced arrivals from Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, stockists and traders are cautious about selling at higher prices.
