NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Following a downward revision to India’s crop estimates, the chickpea market has seen a slight recovery. This has not yet been reflected in export prices. In Canada, buying interest remains rather low.

Slight recovery following a weak phase

The Indian chickpea market is showing the first signs of recovery following a period of low activity. The previously assumed comfortable supply situation is increasingly being called into question, prompting buyers to return to the market in greater numbers. Prices initially fell slightly, mainly due to pressure from new crop arrivals. However, this decline remained limited as demand gradually recovers. At the same time, commodity prices, which had previously fallen, have stabilised, supported by growing buying interest.
