NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. Chickpea prices in India continue to rise and the government is currently discussing another important step to stabilise the market. There have also been slight price increases in Canada.

Tariff cancellation is on the cards

Low stocks and high demand have put pressure on the chickpea market and prices have risen significantly since last week. Prices have been rising regularly since the Indian government decided to lift storage restrictions on kabuli chana a few weeks ago. Currently, the central government is considering another important measure to stabilise the market by making imports of chickpeas duty-free to increase supply and control the price rise.
