NEW DELHI/OTTAWA. On the world market, all eyes are on the Indian chickpea crop, which will certainly have an impact on other important producing countries. US suppliers are finding it difficult to find buyers for their goods.

Price increases currently unlikely

There is still disagreement on the Indian chickpea market regarding this year's production estimates. While some market players reckon that the crop will be small, others are expecting a significant increase of up to 17%; the Chickpea Traders Association, among others, is currently assuming this. Madhya Pradesh is leading this expansion with a 15% increase in acreage, while Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh are also recording significant growth.
