NEW DELHI. After a prolonged decline in prices, the Indian chickpea market is now slowly picking up. The prospect of a smaller crop is supporting prices, as is rising demand.

Chickpea market stabilises after price slump

After a prolonged downward phase, the chickpea market is showing the first signs of a cautious recovery. Following around a month of falling prices, quotations have stabilised and recently risen slightly. The decisive factor here is a noticeable increase in demand at the lower price level, which is causing the market to develop from a pure sell-off to demand-oriented trading.
