NEW DELHI. While the market for chickpeas saw a slight uptick in prices due to local demand in India in September, more recent developments tell a different story.

Supply glut weighs on local market

Prices declined notably last week. With high production levels, the local mandis markets are seeing stockpiles building up. In Maharashtra, chickpeas are being sold at USD 120 to USD 126 per quintal depending on quality, a drop from the earlier price of USD 137 per quintal. Even high-quality goods that normally tend to fetch better prices are selling at USD 127 per quintal.
