Corn: prospects look encouraging so far

SOFIA. Those farmers, whose fields were spared from the hailstorms in the beginning of the month, seem to be positioned for a strong harvest. So far in the season, occasional but substantial rain showers since the start of Summer have been beneficial for the development of the crop because the soil got the necessary water reserves. Such favorable weather conditions before harvest, which is expected to start in approximately a month and a half, will definitely positively influence the yield and thus output this year. Last year, because of persistent droughts, the crop did not fare well. Anyhow, the Summer is still in the middle and nothing is set in stone for the future. After all, an agri-business is an open factory under the sky!

Prices have been quiet for some time

Recently, average corn’s prices EXW have followed a somewhat flat trajectory. Trade activity has been predominantly conducted on the domestic market while exports have been small. Strong demand will be needed for a substantial price to increase.
