The recent rains are favorable for the crop. Depending on the agro-meteorological conditions this summer, the crop could fare much better than it did last year.

Corn: mainly domestic trade while meager shipments sent abroad

SOFIA. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, by the end of last week, exports stood at 897,421 mt. The majority (718,809 mt) of the crop has been shipped to EU member countries such as Spain, Romania, France, Greece among others, while fewer quantities go to the rest of the world.

Locally, the crop is mainly used for feed (587,000 mt). Corn as animal feed is used as a substitute of feed wheat, and depending on exports and prices of wheat, its feed consumption varies.

Expected developments in the Black sea region

According to the USDA report on World agricultural production, the upcoming crop’s output in Ukraine is projected at 28.5 mmt or 1.79% higher than that of last year. Higher regional outputs always boost exports while exports from major producers influence the competitiveness of prices of smaller ones. Ukrainian corn is traded at about 171 USD/mt FOB.
