Dried apricots: agriculture to be diversified

MALATYA. Following the failure of this year's apricot crop, growers in Malatya are currently being offered training courses to help them grow strawberries and blackberries. The aim is to diversify cultivation beyond a single product and create greater diversity.

Exports down by two thirds

According to the Turkish Meteorological Institute, temperatures in the apricot-growing province of Malatya are set to fall further this week, reaching 10-13°C at night and a maximum of 28°C during the day. This year's frost-related crop failure means that exports are significantly lower than last year. Last week, Turkey exported only 620 mt of dried apricots and apricot products, compared to 2,378 mt in the same week last year.
