MALATYA. Monilia disease has severely impacted organic dried apricot production in Turkey, thereby prompting a further rise in prices. Traders are still waiting for the TMO to issue bid prices.

Price surge for organic dried apricots

As the TMO is anticipated to issue high bid prices farmgate prices are on the rise and currently range at TRY 19.00-20.00/kg. Exporters have enough supplies at their disposal to meet existing contracts, and the export prices for conventional dried apricots remain stable. Demand is very good. One problem, however, is that the monilia disease has infested many organic apricots, a situation which has driven up export prices for organic dried apricots. Farmgate prices also range as high as EUR 5.10/kg.
