MALATYA. Apricot trees flowering in higher altitudes require more sun. Inspections for this year’s crop will start soon. Exports nearly generated USD 200 million in the first eight months of the season.

Sunshine required

Due to the heavy rainfall in Malatya this year dam gates were opened to release overflowing water. Rain is still an issue. The Turkish meteorological institute has forecasted temperatures between 4-7C (39-45F) at night and at 16-21C (61-70F) at day for this week, with renewed rainfall anticipated towards the end of the week.

At present, there are no problems with the apricot trees. There has been no frost at all since last week. Yet the trees in higher altitudes have started flowering and need more sun and higher temperatures for the fruit
