AYDIN. Excessive heat and drought have become a problem in Aydin as trees, especially in the moutains, are drying out. This will impact the size and quality of the new dried fig crop.

Big worries

Big concerns are being voiced about yields as drought and extremely hot temperatures are stressing the fig trees, especially in the mountains while it is still possible to irrigate them in the valleys. Despite the fact that approximately 700 kg of rain fell per square metre in Aydin during in the 2023-2024 rainy season, mainy trees have started to dry out. Trouble is that almost no winter was witnessed, which has left the trees unable to withstand drought and excessive heat.

Farmers state that they have never experienced such hot and dry conditio
