Dried figs: chaos persists

AYDIN. First new crop shipments have started with delays for dried figs in Turkey. Wide price gaps persist and quality differs. Expectation is that things will remain unsettled in the next few weeks.

Shipments delayed

As exporters report the first new crop shipments were loaded last week. Yet, their numbers are less than expected as most are still waiting for analysis results. Weekly dried fig exports, in fact, only reached 3,859 mt as of 28 September. Although this figure is much higher than the 899 mt registered in the same week last year, expectation was that around 5,000 mt of the new crop would be shipped. Total exports for 2023/2024 range at 67,550 mt, which is down on the 72,731 mt registered in 2022/2023.
