Dried figs: first fruits have been harvested

AYDIN. Although the dry weather will certainly impact yields, the final production of dried figs is a different matter.

This week's more moderate weather conditions with temperatures ranging at 34C (93F) are good for the trees. Extreme heat causes a lot of stress and reduces yields. Final estimates for Turkey's dried fig production, however, differ considerably and range at 68,000-90,000 mt, of which the latter is similar to last year. 

Growers started harvesting the first small round of figs, which were sold at the symbolic price of TRY 330/kg. Harvesting and drying will mainly continue throughout August and September. The export season ususally s
