Dried figs: Good yield, poor quality

AYDIN. The quality of this year’s production in Turkey is far from satisfactory. Contrary to this, the new global production estimates issued by the INC are more optimistic.

In its current report, the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC) has raised production estimates for dried figs in this season to 145,900 mt, an increase of 4.7% over 2017/18 (139,400 mt). Previous estimates ranged lower at 125,900 mt.

Turkey has increased its dried fig production this year. Unfavourable weather conditions during the drying period have, however, significantly reduced the availability of good quality figs. The suppliers should be able to meet contracts with their regular customers, but buyers
