Dried figs: Rise in production may result in smaller fruits

AYDIN. The quality of the figs used for dried fuit production is highly encouraging in Turkey. Last year's experiences have, however, caused some market players to become more cautious.

Traders prefer to wait

Last August, rain had an adverse impact on dried fig production in Turkey. Market players had intitially reckoned with a good production.  Concerns that a similar situation may ensue this year has prompted many suppliers to hold back offers for the new season. Dried fig production will start in three to four weeks. Although it has been reported that pollination was did not occur to a sufficient degree everywhere, Chelmer Foods reckons that an above-average amount of fruit is hanging on the branches.
