AYDIN. Turkish dried fig exporters experience the current market situation very differently. Some say there should be no export problems, while others report sluggish demand.

Weekly exports surprisingly low

According to the Aegean Exporters Union, exports of dried figs in March increased by 20% compared to the same month last year, and efforts to enhance exports will continue for dried figs as for all dried fruit. Since the beginning of the season, more than 53,200 metric tonnes of dried figs have been exported, which is an increase of 18% over the same period last year. While weekly exports in the week after Easter were comparatively low, market players are now reporting increased demand again.

Price correction remains off

In contrast to the rest of the dried fruit market, export prices for Turkish dried figs remained at last week's level. After there were already considerable price reductions last week, the record low of the Turkish lira had no further effects on prices for the time being.
