IZMIR. In Turkey, there are significantly fewer mulberries available for the 2022/2023 season than last year, and farmgate prices have roughly doubled year-on-year. Export prices also increased considerably.

Yields noticeably reduced

In Turkey, mulberries are grown for processing into dried fruit, mainly in the provinces of Elazıg, Malatya and Adıyaman. The harvest usually takes place between July and August and has now been completed. To obtain 1 kg of dried mulberries, about 4 kg of fresh fruits are needed. Compared to last year, the crop has halved from 8,000 mt to 4,000 mt, market players report. Moreover, about half of this is used for the production of products such as molasses. Accordingly, only about 2,000 mt of mulberries are available for expo
