Flaxseed: crop forecasts for 2023

OTTAWA/ASTANA. Canada's flaxseed acreage has been lower than expected this year, setting a negative record. Russia and Kazakhstan are also forecast to have smaller crops, while Ukraine is looking to push its niche product.

Negative record in Canada

March and April remained cool and dry across Canada,  followed by an unusually hot May. Groundwater reserves are alarmingly low in several regions of Alberta and Manitoba, and much of Saskatchewan is also affected. Despite the drought, however, prices in the Canadian flaxseed market remain stable for the time being. Since stocks in the international market are currently running low, according to the experts at Rayglen Commodities, there is always an opportunity for Canadian suppliers to still sell goods.
