Flaxseed: new crop with many shortcomings

ASTANA. Kazakhstan's flaxseed crop is not up to scratch in terms of quality and appearance. Arrivals are also considerably delayed and organic supplies cannot be shipped until November. Russia has gained considerable ground in the EU and China.

Seeds are too wet

Traders and processors are confronted with a great challenge this season, namely that Kazakhstan's flaxseed crop is too wet. Trouble is that rain caused repeated delays in harvesting and arrivals are only expected to pick up in the next two weeks. As additional drying is required prices will certainly rise. Traders report that the crop is particularly susceptible to mould and other diseases this year.
