NUR-SULTAN. Market players remain confident for the new flaxseed season. Reference prices for the new crop are now available in Kazakhstan and in Russia.

New harvest offers from Russia

Production estimates for Kazakhstan currently range at 800,000-1,000,000 metric tonnes. Due to the early start of sowing the harvest should start up to two weeks earlier and the new crop is expected to arrive in the beginning of September. Low demand for spot purchases has pushed farmgate prices down to EUR 420-430 per metric tonne FCA Kazakhstan. Prices will most probably not reach the target level of EUR 0.48-0.50 EUR per kg in the last weeks of the season. Traders in Kazakhstan reckon that prices will start off in a range of EUR 320-330 per metric tonne FCA North Kazakhstan in the new season. Cleaned flaxseed is thereby expected to trade in a range of EUR 0.48-0.50 per kg DDP Germany in mid-September. Offers haev, however, not been issued so far. The situation is similar in Russia. Spot market prices have also declined and the reference prices for the new crop range at EUR 330-335 per emtric tonne FCA Siberia. Reports state that the first contracts have already been concluded with buyers in China.
