Flaxseed: production has more than halved

ASTANA. The previous production estimates for Kazakh flaxseed production in 2023 by the Kazakh Grain Union were already disappointing, and the official data now published undercuts this result even further.

Yields down by more than 20%

Kazakhstan's flaxseed crop may have been even smaller this season than previously assumed. Experts from the Kazakh Grain Union (KGU) recently spoke of a 45% deficit compared to the previous year, with production falling from 846,000 mt to 465,000 mt according to their estimates. Official statistics, however, state that the slump is even more serious: according to the Kazakh statistics office, flaxseed production in 2023 totalled just 361,700 mt, which corresponds to a decline of 57% compared to the previous year.
