MOSCOW/OTTAWA. The flaxseed market is facing difficult times this season. Poor crops in Kazakhstan and Canada meant that buyers were mainly stocking up in Russia, where production was surprisingly good.

Traders only sell what is currently available

In the meantime, flaxseed prices had swung from one record high to the next. After the turn of the year, it looked as if prices might ease a little. Many buyers were covered by longer-term contracts and hoped for further price corrections for later transactions. The turnaround back to the rising price trend came with Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
