BRUSSELS. EU wheat stands no chance internationally. Farmers have started sowing corn in Argentina. China resists buying US soybeans. Chaos over export duties have effectively stopped Ukraine’s rapeseed shipments.

EU wheat stands no chance

Higher projections in Russia and weak demand are weighing on market sentiments. On Wednesday, analysts IKAR and SovEcon announced a rise in Russia’s wheat production estimate to 87 million mt, thereby also lifting the export potential to 46 million mt, up on last year’s 42 million mt. This has confirmed expectations of a larger crop in Russia. Production ranged at 81.5 million mt last year. While Russian wheat,12.5%, is presently trading at USD 225/mt FOB Black Sea, this rate should drop to USD 220/mt in September.
