Grains and oilseeds: China about to announce retaliatory tariffs

BRUSSELS. Russia’s failed attempt to drive up wheat prices has slowed shipments. Ukraine’s corn exports are 18% up. Rain has prompted sowing to gain pace for soybeans in Brazil and Argentina. Rumour has it that China will slash retaliatory tariffs on Canada's canola.

Russia bickers over wheat prices

Improved crop projections for Argentina and slow exports from Russia prompted sharp declines for wheat at the start of the week. Argentina’s exports may reach 13.3 million mt. This would the second highest value on record as 15.4 milllion mt were shipped in 2021/2022. Russia’s failed attempts to drive up prices slowed down a shipment over 430,000 mt to Egypt in October. The shipment is now to take place in November.
