BRUSSELS. Shock prevails in the market after the USDA released the forecast for wheat. US corn production will witness a downturn. Argentina risks being banned from shipping soybean meal to the EU. Canada has sold a record volume of canola to the EU.

Shock for wheat

Shocked gripped the market after the USDA sharply cut the forecast for the 2026 US wheat crop to 42.5 million mt, the lowest value since 1972. Last year’s crop ranged at 54 million mt. Russia’s estimate stands at 86 million mt, which is also down on last year’s 90.3 million mt. Anticipation in Ukraine is that 23 million mt will be harvested, which is slightly down on last year’s 24.1 million mt.
